Chinese Indoor Spicy Barbecue Recipe (Chinese Cooking Together)

Welcome to Xiao’s Kitchen. My name is Xiao Wei, ever since my Mother taught me how to cook at an early age, I have always had a strong passion for Cooking. My family still live in Inner Mongolia in the northern part of China, where I visit each year and pick-up new Asian/Chinese recipes.

A dish from Korea which has become very popular in China.
However, I have made my own recipe for the sauce. The beauty of this dish is you can use whatever you desire with the sauce.

You will need an electric wok or pan for this dish

500g of beef
3 Tbsp sugar
1 onion
1.5 Tbsp coarse black pepper
3 Tbsp white vinegar
150g tofu
2 potatoes
1 courgette
100g of noodles

For the dipping sauce:
Small bunch fresh coriander
1 spring onion
4 tablespoons chilli & garlic sauce
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
2 tablespoons cumin seeds
2 tablespoons sesame sauce

Slice the beef into very thin slices, I’m using semi-frozen beef joint as this makes it easier when slicing thinly
Place beef in a mixing bowl
Thinly slice the onion
Add the onion, black pepper, sugar, white vinegar and 2 tablespoons of cooking oil
Mix the contents together
Cover the bowl and leave to marinate for 2 hours

Finely chop the spring onions…coriander
Place these in a dish for later
Slice courgette into about 3mm thin slices
Slice the potato into same thickness slices
Cut tofu into thin slices
Place these in a dish for later

Toast the cumin seeds in a frying pan for a minute
Place into a mortar & pestle
Toast sesame seeds for half of a minute
Place together with the cumin to cool down
Place sesame sauce in a mixing bowl, gradually add water and mix until it forms a smooth runny sauce
Add the chilli & garlic sauce, spring onion, coriander
Grind cumin and sesame seeds to coarse
Transfer into the sesame sauce
Mix all together – this is my dipping sauce

Boil 2 litres of water in a pan and add noodles and boil until soft
Drain, place under running cold water then drain
Place onto a dish for later

Now it’s time to cook & eat

Switch the electric grill on high setting
Pour 1 to 2 Tbsp oil onto the grill
Place small amount of the beef onto the grill and stir

Place small amount of potato, courgette, tofu and noodles onto the grill
Turn regularly to avoid burning
Cook these for about 5 minutes
When cooked, turn heat to low
Take 2 Tbsp of the dipping sauce into your serving bowl
Take the cooked meat and vegetables and dip into your sauce and enjoy
Continue with this methods until you are satisfied
